Missing or Slipped Tiles: How Urgent Is It Really?
Honest answer first: one slipped tile on a felted roof with no water coming in is not an emergency. Sort it within a few weeks. What changes that is a gap with nothing underneath, several tiles gone in one area, or tiles missing near a valley, chimney or ridge, because those are the spots where water gets straight in.

It can usually wait if
There is a single tile out of place, your roof has felt or underlay beneath, the loft is dry when you check after rain, and the gap is in the middle of a slope rather than at a junction. Book it in, keep an eye on it, and do not let anyone convince you the ceiling is about to come down.
Ring today if
You can see dark timber or daylight through the gap, several tiles have gone in one storm, the missing tile is beside a chimney, valley or ridge, water is already showing inside, or loose tiles are sitting where they could slide off over a path or driveway. That last one is a safety issue as much as a roofing one.
The loft check
Take a torch up an hour or two after heavy rain and look at the underside of the felt below where the tile is missing. Dry means the underlay is doing its job and you have time. Wet trails, dripping nails or a damp batten means water is getting past and it needs sorting now, not next month.
Why gaps spread
Tiles overlap and hold each other down. Lose one and the wind gets under its neighbours, so a single gap after a storm often becomes three by the next one. Old nail fatigue makes this worse: if the fixings have rusted through, tiles start sliding one after another and you are into a wider conversation about the roof rather than one tile.
FAQs
Can I just push the tile back myself?+
Please do not. Roof work needs a proper platform, and a tile put back without a clip or nail will slip again in the next gust. It is a short, inexpensive job for someone set up to do it.
Will my insurance cover it?+
Storm damage often is covered, general wear rarely is. If several tiles went in a named storm it is worth a claim, and we can supply a written report.
What does a replacement involve?+
Matching the tile, checking the batten behind it, and fixing mechanically with a clip or nail rather than bedding it in mortar.
How quickly can you come out?+
Usually within days for a straightforward tile, and same day where we can for anything letting water in. Call 07962 830361.
