The Roof Replacement Process, Step by Step
  • Survey and written quote first
  • Scaffold with proper edge protection
  • Strip in sections — always weathertight overnight
  • Timber and deck repairs before anything covers them
  • Breathable membrane, treated battens, correct fixings
  • Leadwork, ridge and verge finishing

Before we start

We survey the roof properly — up on it or from safe access, plus the loft — photograph what we find, and issue a fixed written quote that names the products. Scaffolding is designed and booked, any Building Control notification is arranged, and we agree a start window and access arrangements with you and, where needed, your neighbours.

On site, in order

Scaffold goes up and gets checked. The roof is stripped in sections so the property is never left open, with old material dropped into a chute rather than over the edge. Once the structure is exposed we inspect every rafter end, batten run and, on flat sections, the deck — anything soft gets replaced and photographed before it's covered. Then breathable membrane, treated battens gauged to the covering, and the tiles or slates laid with the correct fixings and clips.

  • Stripped in sections, weathertight each night
  • Timber repairs photographed before covering
  • Membrane, battens, covering in sequence
  • Dry ridge, verge and hip finishing

Finishing and sign-off

Leadwork at chimneys, valleys and abutments; ridge and verge finished; gutters cleared of debris from the works. We clear and magnet-sweep the site, walk the job with you with the before-and-after photographs, and issue the guarantee and any Building Control paperwork. Scaffold comes down once you've seen the finished roof.

FAQs

How long does a typical reroof take?+

A standard semi is usually four to seven working days on the roof, plus scaffold up and down. Weather can extend it — we don't strip into a bad forecast.

What happens if it rains mid-job?+

Nothing is left open. Stripped sections are covered and the roof is made weathertight at the end of every day.

Do I need to be home?+

Not for the duration — just for the start, any decisions during the works, and the handover walkthrough.

Will you need access inside?+

Usually only to the loft, at the start and near the end.
