Dry Ridge & Dry Verge System Installation

Mortar-bedded ridge tiles are no longer compliant under BS 5534 and tend to lift in Chiltern winds. Dry ridge fixes it mechanically — the only spec we'll quote on a reroof.

Dry Ridge & Dry Verge System Installation
  • BS 5534 compliant fixings
  • Replaces failing mortar ridge
  • Continuous high-level ventilation
  • Plain tile, profiled tile & slate compatible
  • Manley & Klober systems
  • Dry verge to match

What changed in BS 5534

Since 2015, ridge tiles must be mechanically fixed — mortar alone is no longer compliant. Roofs reroofed before then are coming up for ridge work now, and dry ridge is the only spec that meets the standard.

How a dry ridge actually works

A breather roll seats over the ridge tile join, a continuous batten sits along the apex, and each ridge tile is mechanically fixed with a stainless screw and gasket clamp — plus the high-level ventilation BS 5250 now requires.

FAQs

Can I retrofit dry ridge without a full reroof?+

Yes — we strip the existing mortar ridge tiles, fit the dry ridge system underneath and reuse the original tiles if sound. Typically £900–£1,800 for a semi.

Does dry ridge look different from outside?+

No — the ridge tiles look the same from ground level. Only difference is a small gap line under the tile where ventilation enters.
