Why clay outlasts concrete

Concrete tiles surface-weather, lose their colour coating and start absorbing water around year 25–30. Clay is fired colour-through-the-tile — it ages, it doesn't fail. On any house you're planning to keep more than 15 years, clay is the better economic call.

Conservation & listed work

We've done clay reroofs in Amersham Old Town, Chesham conservation area and Buckinghamshire village settings — using matched hand-made tiles and traditional detailing where planning requires it.

FAQs

Are clay tiles much more expensive than concrete?+

Materials are roughly double; total job cost is 20–35% higher. Spread over the tile's life it's actually cheaper than fitting concrete twice.

Can I mix new clay with existing reclaimed?+

Yes — for repairs we blend reclaimed tiles into prominent elevations and use new ones on rear slopes. Avoids the obvious 'patched' look.
