What usually breaks a tile
Foot traffic from previous trades (TV aerial fitters are the usual culprit), frost on porous tiles, or branches in a storm. If one tile is broken, the ones each side are usually loose too.
Why we won't just silicone it
Silicone'd tiles last one summer. Tiles are designed to be lifted and re-fixed with nails or clips — anything else is hiding the problem until the next storm.
FAQs
Can a broken tile cause a leak straight away?+
Not always — the felt underneath buys you time. But debris collects, the felt tears, and the leak appears 18 months later in an unrelated-looking spot.
Will you replace a tile if it's discontinued?+
Yes — we hold reclaimed stock of common 1960s–90s patterns and can source most others within a few days.
